*Four levels of consciousness and how our relationship with life shapes what we are able to receive and hold.*

There is a teaching I return to whenever I think about wealth and money. The levels of consciousness theory was first introduced to me by Michael Bernard Beckwith, founder of the Agape International Spiritual Center, who describes four stages of consciousness in his book *Life Visioning*.

***Life happens to me, then by me, then through me, and finally as me.***

Beckwith was writing about spiritual growth rather than bank accounts. What follows is my own reading of his map, laid over wealth.

Wealth changes as our relationship to life changes. Not because one level magically earns more money than another, but because each level alters what we believe is possible, what we think we must control, how much we can receive, and where we believe our power lives.

I don't read these as a hierarchy, with ***as me*** as the spiritually superior place to arrive. They are states we move between. A woman can live ***through me*** in her creative work and drop straight into ***to me*** when an unexpected bill arrives.

### **TO ME**
*Life is happening to me.*

Here, wealth feels largely outside our control. Someone chooses us. Someone pays us. A client leaves. An opportunity disappears. The economy decides what is possible, and someone else seems to have access we do not.

Money can feel like something life either gives or withholds. Much of this is real, and some women carry generations of genuine scarcity. The nervous system is often scanning for threat and for evidence that there will not be enough. And because we don't yet feel powerful in relation to what is happening, holding tightly can feel safer than receiving deeply.

The question here is: *Will life give me enough?*

### **BY ME**
*I make life happen.*

This is where personal agency returns. We build, work, negotiate, launch, save, sell, strategize and ask for more.

This level matters enormously, especially for women who have historically been taught to wait to be chosen. There is real power in discovering that I can create value, and that I can change my circumstances.

But *by me* has a shadow. If everything comes through our effort, then stopping can feel dangerous. Success becomes something we must continuously manufacture, and wealth quietly turns into another form of labor. A friend reaches for the bill at dinner, and something in us tightens. Later in this issue, Melanie (Madhuri) Phillips gives this state a name. She calls it overdrive.

The question here is: *What can I make happen?*

### **THROUGH ME**
*Life is creating with me.*

Something softens here. We still act and we still decide, but we are no longer gripping every outcome. Ideas arrive. Relationships open doors. Timing starts to matter. We notice opportunities we could never have engineered, and work begins to feel less like forcing and more like participation.

This is where receiving becomes part of wealth. Not passive receiving, but available receiving: the invoice paid and accepted without apology, the friend who pays for dinner and is allowed to.

A woman who has lived mostly in *by me* may find this surprisingly difficult, because it asks her to trust what she did not personally control.

The question here is: *What is trying to move through me?*

### **AS ME**
*There is no longer a clean separation between me and the life I am creating.*

Overflow begins in *through me*. Here it stops being an experience and becomes a way of being. Not the promise that we can manifest whatever we want, but something deeper: abundance stops being something located outside us that must eventually arrive.

Your ideas are wealth. Your relationships are wealth. Your capacity to create is wealth. Your discernment is wealth. So is your ability to give without depletion and receive without guilt.

Money still matters, very much. But it becomes one expression of a much larger field of resource.

The question is no longer: *How do I get abundance?* It becomes: *What becomes possible when I stop living as though I am separate from the source of what I create?*
